New and Old Hobbies

Howdy All,
Well, I have been quite busy in my sewing room trying to get done wit a three inch on line square swap and am almost done with that. Also will finish up five blocks for another online project today. It was fun doing them but it will be nice to be a little freed up to pursue yet another project :) Yippee! Here are a couple of pictures of the jewel box quilt I did for my daughter. It really was a fun project. I think the brightness of the colors helped with that.
Oh, and not that I have enough going on I have recently taken up violin lessons and I LOVE it! Some times 45 minutes go by just like that while I practice. It is really cool. So, you might have figured out that that is another reason I'm probably not blogging as much as I'd like, but I'm trying :0)
Hope you all have a great day of Quilting :0)
Cindy

I love your Jewel Box. I am working on my second Jewel Box. I really love the pattern, it goes together quickly and makes a beautiful quilt.

Glad you are enjoying the violin. Richard plays the fiddle, basically the same thing. Andrew and Hunter play guitars. I love when they all play together.

Your Jewel Box quilt is smashing! I love all the bright colors and the border fabric is just perfect!

Thanks for your comment on MyQuiltBlog. The cliques in a guild, or any group of women for that matter, can be so annoying. Ours has that too I'm sure, but so far I have been able to ignore most of it. 3-5 of us get together Monday mornings from 9:30-1:00 or so - including Erin (Vesuviusmama) when she can get away from work for lunch. No name to our group, no group-wide projects, sometimes some non-guild friends, sometimes some knitting and/or crocheting, no refreshments - just hanging out together, sharing projects, giving and getting advice, working on our own indivudual projects and sharing our lives. A great way to start the week! Three of us are retired educators and most of the others who come by are retired - then there is that young fresh face of Erin who we all LOVE to have come when she can.

Have a great day.

Be careful what you wish for. I thought it would be fun to get together with some ladies from the Senior Center where I sometimes teach computer classes and help with Medicare Part D counseling, so I offered to lead a group of quilters beginning last May. I had no intention of it being something where I was expected to teach every week, but I am definitely looked upon as the leader. I have been working the last couple of months 1/2 time in the hospital office where I used to volunteer, so my time is more limited than it used to be when I started this group. I try to limit the time I spend on what I do for this group to Wed. mornings, then go to the gathering that afternoon. We are doing bug jar quilts- different sizes of quilts, and different sizes of jars, but sharing some of the same materials. One of them is way ahead of me but I worked hard yesterday morning to get most of the rest of mine cut out and the piecing begun on them so I could show them some progress. And when I go to the Center in the afternoon there is only one lady there - and she is the one who has already pieced 4 or 5 of them in the last few weeks! I feel badly that the Senior Center just bought us a new sewing machine to use for the quilting group, but maybe some of the others will come back soon!

But yes, you are right that I am lucky to have time to spend with quilting friends. I am still new enough at this to be amazed to find so many people who love quilting like I do.

I'll post pictures on my blog in a few days of the progress I've made on my "bug" jars. I say that because none of mine have bugs in them - veggies, fruits, snacks, flowers, butterflies, stars, but no bugs. Some of mine are mason jars, some are ginger jars and some are mini-gingers with 4 in a block the size of the ginger jar.
