Quilt Show Ribbons

Our quilt guild had it's show yesterday. This is a show that they have every three years. I entered 9 quilts and won first place with a wall hanging that I did for for daughter. The award was for best hand quilting!!! I also took 3rd for my Autumn Stars mini quilt.

I was so stressed before the show, I was considering quitting quilting! So I find myself up early this morning and soooooo inspired! I have prepared a backing and am washing it and the binding. It may be three years before I use it but I'm back at it!!! :) Off and running! Have a great day!

I finally finnished the Exploring Fabric Choices class quilt! I took it to the shop and they immediatley hung it in the class room :) I'm so excited to teach this class! I know I learned a lot from it and I'm hoping that I can share it with others :0)

I really need to be working on my butterfly block! I was supposed to be at a fund raiser party tonight but work ran over and, well, it's not going to happen. Maybe I will make it into the studio tonight after all! I really should as the rest of the week is crazy busy as Easter is fast approaching! Choir practice Wed, and signing on Maunday Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday! Oh, yeah. The company arrives on Friday, too :)

Ode to our Snowman

I meant to post this a week ago or so but we did have snow yesterday. Not enought to build a snowman, thank goodness!!! This is our snowman as he is enjoying his last hours before returning to hibernation until next winter. We were amazed at how skinny his neck had become and still be able to hold up the helmet!!! We thought it quite comical :)

We have a Passion play to attend at church today but after I'll be making up a quick table runner. The tutorial is a couple of posts back, if you would like to see how it's made :)

New Quilt Block Design!

I can't believe it has been almost two weeks since I posted! Time sure can get away from us! I have been working on a new block design using the light blue butterfly fabric as the challenge. This block started out as just going to be the black butterfly cut out on the challenge fabric. As I worked on it last night it just sort of took wing! LOL I am so pleased with it. I do have to thank my son for the glittery yellow in it as I was auditioning a gold looking bali.

This is a fun little contest that is put on by four quilt shops in my area. All the blocks (after being judged) will be taken and made into quilts for different charities. This will be the fourth Bop Around the Bay. It is sort of like a shop hop. There will be sales and if you vote at each store you are put into a drawing for gift certificates! It's a fun weekend :) Hope to post again soon as I have more stuff to share. Off and running..... to blanket stich on my block!

Table Runner Tutorial and Another Contest???

Well, I would like to thank everyone who voted for my mom's quilted jacket and purse. I must confess, after seeing the beautiful competition, I just could not vote for myself!!!! I really LOVE the Asian Jacket!! Hey, what can I say, I have a soft spot for blue herons! So, there is another contest this weekend and the subject is applique. I finally have the binding on the Signs of Peace Quilt so I thought I would use it for my entry :)

This is a table runner that I did for my sister-in-law for her B-day. It is from a free pattern that I picked up from my LQS.

Very easy to make and I believe there are a few variations but all you nee is:
1/2 yard for the back and border
1/3 yard for center
about 3/4 yard of fusible interfacing or enough to fuse both pieces of fabric.

Press both pieces, fold in half (for easier evening) and even edges. If you lay the smaller piece on the larger piece you can easily trim your selvages off all at once and both pieces should then be even.

With right side together sew both long edges, making a tube. Turn right side out. Press so that your center fabric is center. Then trim the ends so that they are even. Take one end and fold so that the center fabric is on the outside and stitch all the way across with a 1/4 inch seam. When you unfold this it will make the nice triangle shape on the end.

Repeat with other end.

I tacked down the flaps with buttons but you could get creative, maybe use a decorative stitch all the way across or maybe just use some glue :) Have fun with it.

I made one with less fabric because it was all I had and it turned out cute as a mini :)

I really should be quilting instead of in front of this computer, I bet I would get a lot more done! LOL I just had to do a quick post of this quilt that I designed and quilted for a friend of mine. The quilting was inspired by Linda Taylor. This quilt is bound but the pictures turned out blurry.

Hard to quilt with Teeth Involved!

When I heard that both my children need braces the thought didn't occur to me that it may affect my quilting. Well, it has both financially and time wise. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my kids and cherish the short amount of time they will live here! However, when your son has to have his braces on one day and then oral surgery the next; it's a little taxing. He came through it like a trooper and he thinks he's something else because he had three baby teeth in that one hole!

So after his surgery, mind you he is pretty loopy from the sedation, I thought it would be fun to stop at the animal shelter to look ay kitties. Yeah, you see where this is going.... Well, we lost our cat Hasbro about 6 weeks ago, he was 19. When we wlked into the shelter there were his carbon copies!!! I was hooked! So, yes, life with cats now begins. They are warming up to our shih-tzu slowly. I think it will be fine. They were named Ozzie and Harriet and I think the names will stand :)

Need to do some securing of the house as they are into everything!!! Then I hope to get to some quilting :) Off and running! Have a great day!

Two Projects Done!

Well, I have just realized how much of a blessing a new router can be! I uploaded these two pictures in seconds! Usually, it seemed, I would have to go and cook dinner or something. LOL As I mentioned in my last post, I have listening to toginet.com. I'm addicted!!! That stuff is huge for getting my creative juices flowing. The latest show I can't get enough of is Pat Sloan's Creative Talk Radio. LOVE IT! So, latley, I have been getting overwhelmed with projects. The stars you see have been made for our quilt guild, RQK, for Moda's, Just One Star, can comfort a soldier. So, of course, I had to make four! So they are done :)

One of the ladies, in a smaller group I am in, brought back a beautiful fabric from Hawaii. She wanted to share this with us so we decided it would be a great Round Robin Project :) The fabric is the white, green and blue bali fish. My center block is of a fish, I'll try to find a picture to post, later. The last border on this on is my applique border. Thank goodness she top stitched the center or I don't know what I would have done!

I do have the next Round Robin to work on and it is a border of squares. Thinking maybe hourglass blocks. Then there are the place-mats, I'm doing 6. Two for one group for an adult foster care home and four for the other for the craft table at our guild show in Sept. Way too much more to think about... LOL So we'll keep it simple :)

If you haven't heard or listened to Creative Mojo with Mark Lipinski, I highly recommend it! You can download it on itunes or listen to it live on Toginet.com, online radio show. Mark has guests on the show that he does interviews with and they are on there to help you spark your creativeness :) Each show is two hours and I LOVE them. A lot of book, web sites, blogs etc. to check out.

I have been sooooo busy!!!!! As we all have been, I'm sure, but I did want to give you an update on the online class I took with Annie Smith. I had a great time!!! I could work on it whenever I wanted, had help whenever I needed it via email and an online chat on Sunday afternoon and I learned a lot! Feathered Star

This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. A Feathered Star! I'm am taking on the task of doing The Quilt Show's BOM by Sue Garmen. This was the BOM from last year. I have also joined a guild near me, Rumpled Quilt Skins - RQK. It is a huge group of members, over 100 or so. So I thought it would be a great idea to join up for the UFO Challenge. My list is 30 projects long!!!! Unfortunately, that's not all of them either :( I have decide that I need QA - Quilter's Anonymous! So hopefully I'll be able to be posting more to show my UFO's that Im responsible for. Oh, and by the way - the BOM is NOT on my UFO list :( Yes, I agree. I need help! However, I do know that I am not the only one in this boat. LOL :) My Bernina went down this weekend :( I think It's a computer issue :( Have to take it the QS 50 miles away :( Thank goodness I have my Janome to fall back on. I'll tell ya what. My Janome is ten years old - actually a New Home machine. It is a smoother running machine than the Bernina and if Jamone can pull off a stitch regulator, I think I'll be purchasing another machine! :) Off and running!!!!

Quilter's Palette Homework

Here are the pictures of my fabric choices and my blocks so far for my class I'm doing on line with Annie Smith. This is a relly great idea! We get our assignment and she has video you watch to explain how to do the techniques and then you have about one week to watch them and finish your "homework" :) Annie is also doing a two hour live chat for this class once a week which enables you to ask questions and stuff. It is really fun!

Our daughter was supposed to have softball tonight but it has been cancelled due to rain. This is going to sound a little selfish but I'm kinda glad because it is my quilt group night and a lady is demonstrating how to make a shoulder bag :) If it turns out cute I'll post a pic.
Work is going well. I'm booked out three weeks already and it's not even really warm here yet. It's making it a little hard to get my class homework done as I'm so tired but I'm having fun anyway :)
We have a tiny cruise ship in our little town now :) I'm going to have to take a trip on it this summer. I think it is only a couple hours long and looks like you have to sit the whole time. Could be wrong on that.
I think the movie that was filmed here last summer is due to come out sometime this summer. It is called, Youth in Revolt. I think it is going to be rated R. It's not going to be easy telling my kids that they can't see it but they're NOT going to SEE it :)
Have to go load up the sewing machine and get ready for my meeting.
Oh! By the way, my teddy bear block took second place out of about 65 blocks and I won a $50.00 light that Velcro's on to my machine for extra needle light! Have a great quilting evening :) Off and running!

On line Class with Annie Smith

Oh! I'm so excited! Annie Smith is offering a quilt class that will be ten weeks long on her Quilter's Palette pattern (shown below) on web T.V. You will get a different part each week and there will be help available if you need it and also a chat room once a week to talk to others doing the pattern. If your like me and have nothing to do, YEAH, RIGHT!!!!, then you should pop over to simplearts.com for more details :) There will be three ways of machine applique shown as well as many other techniques and talk of color value. I'm going to try really hard to keep up :)

I finished quilting my rug on Georgia today but have to do more cut outs on it before I can post pics. Also jamming on my dad's quilt. that's going to be a stretch for the deadline. Oh, well. Off and running :) Have a great day!

This is a block I did for a Bop around the Bay. It is a little contest to have people make blocks from a challenge fabric. These blocks will them be turned into quilts for the children's cancer center. It was a lot of fun to make and my son was sad to see him leave. I did have aLQS owner suggest I do a pattern for him and teach a class on it, maybe as a pillow. Thought that's kinda neat. Might be fun, too :)
It has been so busy around here. It is spring and the grass is growing. Not a real bad thing unless you have an acre of land to mow and your riding lawnmower is broken :( So, sadly, I have been using the push mower. When we bought it my hubby didn't think was necessary to get the one that pulls itself, sooooooooo, yeah. I'm getting much needed exercise. It has been a long winter here.
I'm currently making a rug on my long arm but I ran out of variegated thread and am having a tough time matching it. One is on order I hope it will work. Good thing I'm making this one for keeps :) Also trying to get my Dad's quilt done by the end of the month for his birthday.

I can't believe it has been soooo long since I have posted! Sorry :( I have been so busy With work and now Georgia, my long arm. I have done three commission quilts. The one below was my first one. Was supposed to be a simple overall stipple but I through in some swirls and center stars.

Have also done two baby quilts for a lady for her twin grand daughters. Unfortunately the cord to download the camera is MIA :( When I find It I can post more pics :)
Robotics is finally over. It was fun and they had a good time and learned lots of fun things for next year. Our daughter will be attending the Blue lake camp after all. She is excited :)
We are visiting my parents for Easter and have brought Gracie our dog and she is adapting and fitting in very well. Hope you all have a wonderful Easter!

Excitement in my Life

Hey everyone,
I have been meaning to post but things keep coming up! Were to start... I guess valentines day. I received an email from Annie Smith asking me to be a pattern tester for her! How cool! i hope it pans out because it sounds like fun :) Also have been getting a lot of sewing time to myself. (Work is a little slower in the winter) I have been working on my Non Civil Stars quilt. I decided to use one of the fabrics in it to do the border but could only find the other two color ways online as this fabric collection has been out more the=an a year. Well, low and behold! I did find a site that had it the very next day! They had all three, in fact. And all on SALE!!!!!!!! So, yeah, I bought all three! LOL All they had left in two of them was 1 and 3/4 yards, so I cleaned them out!
Here is my flag I quilted on Georgia. It was my second project on my frame. I figured if I waited to bind it, you might never see it. LOL I did stars and swirls on it. A little tighter then I would have liked but I'm pleased with it considering it's one of my first :)

My daughter is in T.C. this a.m. with the robotics team from her school. They were in competition all day yesterday and for it being their second year as a school they did o.k. I'm going up for the seeding n=matches this a.m. incase they don't make the alliance cut for the finals. Anyway she is only 13 and in seventh grade. Robotics was supposed to be for 9th grade and up but she's in it. The principle is an the team, too. so if there was a problem he would make it right.
She also came home from school the other day telling me she talked to this guy about a summer art camp. Come to find out it is a camp for gifted kids!! Who sent her there!!!! Just kidding. She is very good at her drawing and eats , sleeps, and dreams about it :) Anyway, come to find out that it costs $1025.00 for two weeks!!!!!!! Yes, I almost died! So I call this camp yesterday and talk to someone about a possible scholarship and they tell me she already interviewed for one the other day and we would be getting a letter in the mail letting us know if she got one!!! That's peach and all but even if she get the high end scholarship we will still owe $700.00! And my mom says we just have to send her!!!!!!! This would be great for her as I found out that it is 5 and 1/2 hours of art instruction with actual teachers everyday. They wear uniforms and everything! They also get to choose a minor which they get an hour a day to work on as well. Along with swimming, sports, games, campfires, singing etc. So this client of mine brings her dogs in yesterday and I'm telling her all you just read and she says she has a friend who has just finished writing a book and about young teen girls and will check with her if she would be interested in having my daughter draw the pictures for her book!!!! OMG I'm not going to get my hopes up, we'll probably never hear from this lady but WOW!!! Could you imagine if my daughter were to be published at thirteen!!! Cool!

Auditioning Sashing

Man, have I been SEWING!!!! This must be what Kristie feels like when she sews :) She is such an inspiration to me :) These stars were a challenge but I persevered! Now to tackle the boarder. Sounds like I'm wrestling it or something, hence the name, Not so Civil Stars :) In the picture I did three sections each a little different. I'm pretty sure which one I'm picking but I thought I wuold share my progress so far :)

Snocross snow mobile race is in town this weekend and they are having a cruise in at the A&W. We are off and running to check it out and then running back home to SEW!!!!! Yippee!!!

wel, here is a picture of what I received at my group exchange. I tis a beautiful table runner! It even has mother of pearl buttons that I know were very dear to the makers heart and I was honored to be on the receiving end it :)

Yeah! I picked up Georgia yesterday and she is now all set up in my studio and I have done some embarrassing quilting on her. TEE HEE :) It is amazing how forgiving she is. LOL

I'm working on these stars from *$%^*#%^*$%^*$%^* that I thought I could just whip off and they are a bear!!!!! So, I think I'll go, HAPPILY, work on them for a while! LOL Have a great day! Off and running....

Original Design

Here are some pics of my exchange for my group tomorrow night. It could be anything you wanted to make as long as it had a heart theme. So I decided to make my own design. It will make a nice center piece for a table. I will love what ever I get. Even though it could be anything from a coaster to a wall-hanging. I doubt anyone will be making a lap quilt to swap. That would be awesome though!!!!

Gracie is working out great!!! I love her soooo much. It is amazing how she has just fit right into our lives. We took her for walks both yesterday and today. They really pooped her out :) She could stand to lose a pound or two. LOL She is sooooo smart! she did one of those grab my hand with her teeth and pull me toward a door thing. It was like, "What, Lassie? Timmy's down in the well?" She wanted me to come downstairs with her so she could eat!!!! well, that's all fine and dandy but the 11:00 p.m. eating thing is going to have to stop! Thanks goodness she just came down and ate. I may turn in early as it
s been along day. We had church at the 8:30 service for Boy Scout Sunday and then home to cook for the BGot Scout Blue and Gold Banquet! Yawn :) Off and running... to bed probably! Good night!

Amazing Week!

Well, I guess I should have asked for a new car! I have my handi quilter ( ready to pick up soon) and if you had told this morning I was getting a dog, I would have said a snowball would have a better chance on the equator :) So, of course, we now have a dog. Her name is Gracie and she is a Shih-Tzu and is six years old. She is a client of mine whose people can't keep her anymore because they have to move :( Bad for them great for us. This little dog is soooo cool :) They told me when they dropped her off that the dog had saved their lives by waking the mom when the house was on fire so they were able to get out safe. Also, as we were driving home from the vet appointment (she did get, by the way - I'm a proud mom :) I'm driving about 55 mph and decides to sit up pretty on her back legs and beg for a treat!!! She dances too :) I love her. I am going to try to let her coat grow out full so her face is a disaster, kinda like when you're growing out your bangs. She has a really nice coat. She should matt too bad with regular brushing :) I think I can handle it!

I got it! I got it! I'm so excited! I actually don't have it because she is getting upgraded! Her name is Georgia, by the way :) After my grandma. I had the stylist add so I can do groovy boards. Those are soooooo sweet! I will be able to add the prostitcher. But is REALLY expensive!!!! It was a used machine but after the upgrades it will be like a 2009 HQ-16. It saved me 3000.00 going that route and it will have a one year warranty on everything!!!! All this because I called for info on the baby lock Jewel!!!!

I am so completely wiped out from today! So much stress from the decisions and the haggling! Still have to get the homework done and clean more in the sewing room. With any luck Georgia will be ready next Tuesday. I CAN'T WAIT! :) Have a great night! Of and running.... hopefully to bed :)

Tomorrow is the day!!! I'm so nervous, excited, scared,etc. Now is definitely not the time to be spending this kind of money! So, will have to play it by ear and, one, see if they still have the HQ-16 and didn't sell it on Sat. at the sale. Two, have to see the condition of the machine. And three, see if their salesman is strong enough to pry the cash from my hand!!!! LOL I spent the whole Super Bowl organizing my Studio so I can fit this thing in there, sooooooooooo.... I HOPE I GET IT :) LOL I'll keep you posted. Off and running....

HELP! HQ-16 Info Needed

Hey everyone, I'm looking to possibly get a Handi Quilter 16 Quilting machine. I'm wanting to know if it is possible to quilt a 12 inch block on the frame with a continuous design with out rolling up the fabric. Does this make sense? Also, any yeas or nays would be appreciated :)
This is my other Exploring Fabric Choices quilt, one of Annie Smiths designs. IfI can ever get up enough nerve to teach, I could let them hang this one as an example. My first one traveled too much and is too dear to my heart to let it be out of my sight :)

Get to go on a Super bowl sale at our LQS tomorrow! Soooo excited :) I did receive 60.00 in gift certificates to this shop from my clients for Christmas and I 'm makin' a list!
Just returned home from helping drive the confirmation kids up to T.C. to see a movie. We were going to see Inkheart but had to see Mall Cop instead. I really did not want to see this movie as I thought it looked pretty dumb but it was actually GREAT!! I would recommend it :) Happy Quilting :) Off and running!

Getting a Head of Myself

Well, haven't we all had those moments where we just do something that's, like, where was my BRAIN!!!!! Well, I'm making a heart theme quilt, my own design no less, and I tried the 505 spray baste. Well, let me tell you that it worked great!!! Had the quilt marked ready to quilt and everything :) Life is good, RIGHT! WRONG! Luckily before I started quilting it I realized the I had not done the button hole machine applique :( So glad I hadn't pinned basted it :) I just peeled it off and now it's ready to go... major time set back, though. Off and running - to bed :) Good night!

60th Post!!!!!

Can you believe it! My 60th post! pretty good for me, huh. Well I have to tell you about my trip I took yesterday. It was to Chicago to see the musical Wicked!!!!! It was AWSOME!!!! If you haven't seen it and get a chance too, GO :) So here we go! This was a field trip with the High School Drama Club. We had twenty-five kids, eight adults,on a school bus, in white out conditions, left at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and returned Sunday night, actually 1:15a.m. Monday morning with slim to know heat on the bus!!!!!! Frozen toes, baby!!!!!! Had a blast but not to eager to go any time soon!!! :)

Tee-Shirt Quilt Done

Hello to everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all your quilty dreams came true :) Also, Happy New Year!!! My resolutions are: to finish a WIP (or UFO) a month. I know there is a contest for this but there is like 120 people in it and that just boggles my mind! I hope they all do well :) My next resolution is to blog more but, sad to say, don't hold your breath. I have thought about putting this on here since before New Years and I haven't even been able to blog!!! Did try once though and blogger was being a poo, so that turned me of :( Of course we have to have the weight loss one too :( The only thing about the holidays - all the food temptaions!!!! My will power was just absolutly gone. Oh well, I know, quit whinning and do something about it!!!
Anyway, here is a couple of pictures of the Tee-Shirt quilt I did for a lady, she just loved it! It will be a while before I take on more commission work as I forced myself to do a list if UFOs and I have close to 30!!!!!!! So, I must confess, instead of blogging, I have been quilting. So, when I give the lady the quilt she says, "I have all my husband rock concert shirts too, if you want to do another one." YIKES!!!!! She did say it didn't have to be right away.

A little non quilty stuff. I celebrated with my parents at their house over New Years and They live in South East Michigan. NOw, mind you , I grew up there and lived there for 25 years! Well, while we where down there, my family and I went to the Edsel Ford Mansion in Grosse Point. I'm still in awe!!!!! If you are ever in the area I highly recommend this to you all!!! The history about them is very interesting. I was impressed as this was back in the 1920's when this mansion was built. Sixty rooms by the way. A gate keepers house with the garage the had its own turn table so that about twenty cars could be stored in there and a play house the is 3/4 scale to a real house that is fully operational. Furnace with thermostat, fire place refrigerator and a stove!!! I felt like a giant in there! It was a very strange feeling. I'm soooo glad we went. We plan to go again in the spring/ summer. As I here the gardens on the grounds are breath taking :)
The kids had friends spend the night and as I do not have a butler and a maid or the live in nanny :( I'm off and running to start breakfast and get them moving!!! Have a great day!!!

Maple Leaf Quilt

Hey! I finally have been able to get in to the sewing room to quilt :0) I have finished quilting the Leaf quilt and it is handed over to the orther person for binding. It's a group effort auction quilt for next year.

Also am over half way done quilting the Tee-Shirt quilt :) Would like to get it done tomorrow but that might be a stretch :) However we are expecting another eight inches of snow through tomorrow night, sooooooo, maybe......
Anyhow, christmas shopping is done and everything is wrapped. Hugh stress reliever let me tell ya. Still need to get the Ginger bread house done ( tomorrow).

Snow!!!!

Wow, did we get the snow today!!!! Probably eight inches already and more tonight :0( I'm not a real big fan of snow. I'd definitely rather be quilting :0) I just had to joke yesterday about the kids being home four days due to the Thanksgiving holiday and wouldn't it be a bad joke if they had a snow day and had to stay home another day? Well, Hardy Har Har... LOL They were home again today. I actually had four out of seven dogs show up for their haircuts, too Needed the cash so that was a good thing. Shot the making Christmas cookies though. Maybe tomorrow on my day off. These are pics of some of our backyard visitors. I haven't seen this buck since deer season :( Hope he didn't get it.

These pigeons are a hoot!! Literally! I guess they are wild. They come and roost on top of the house and while i'm sewing I can hear them walking across the roof line and cooing!! It is so cool! I guess they come in to eat the corn and kitty food we throw out the back.

I'm working on a crib size wall hanging for an auction the will not now be neede until next years auction. YIPEE!!!!! Takes a little of the stress off. Now I can get the other Christmas tree done for next Monday :0) I hope to post a picture soon, atleast of it quilted. Someone else hopefully will bind it. Off and running.

Tee-Shirt Quilt

Yeah!!! I finally pieced the tee-shirt quilt. I would like to have it quilted and bound by a week from Sunday but with the holiday upcoming with company too... I don't see it happening :0( Really didn't want to mail this but if I have too, which method would you recommend is the safest??

We have three boys spending the night so with my two kids that's five!!!! Thet are sledding with the hubby right now. Hope they are not up too late as I am working the church bazaar in the morning. Kidney Stone Update

YIPEE!!!!!! OMG! I was in Monday to see the urologist so they could set up surgery for my kidney stone. They did an x-ray and another CT scan just to make sure it hadn't moved and to be able to see where they needed to remove it from and IT'S GONE!!!! I am sooooooooo happy I cried tears of joy! All they could tell me was that maybe it was all the Coke a cola classic I drank. I was over dosing on it because I read on line that you can de-solve a kidney stone by drinking a LOT of cokes (like, four in one hour and don't urinate until you have drank them all and an hour has passed. Hey, whatever the case it's gone, no surgery and I'm the happiest girl around!!!! still have a few symptoms due to the swelling of my kidney do to the blockage but that should be gone in a week or two.
I almost have all the borders on the Tee-shirt quilt and have a leaf wall hanging I have to get quilted A.S.A.P. Hope to post some pictures soon. Just wanted to post the GREAT NEWS! :0) Off and running...

Oh, Christmas Tree!

Hey! I have been sewing!!! I have been working on four of these Christmas trees. This one is done and for our church bazaar, another one is pieced and two more are ready to piece :0) They look really complicated but not ONE triangle was cut in the making if these wall hangings! They were made using Jodi Barrows Square in a Square system. I bought the package deal when I was in Paducha and wish I had used it sooner... I'M HOOKED :0) The coffee cup was put in the picture to give an idea of scale :0)
I go in on Monday morning and take my x-rays to her to see the status on my kidney stone. I will be really glad when this is all behind me. My hopes are that I will be able to stay up passed 9 p.m. and do some sewing :0) Keep on quilting! Off and running!

Wildlife around Here

Been away a while again :0( Sorry! I feel guilty as I'll lurk your blogs and check on you then not blog myself. The halloween dance was fun. Being a chaperone was a little different. When you're only 5 foot 3 1/2 and have to tell kids that are taller than you to settle down, it feels a little awkward! All in all it was a fun time had by all! Halloween was different as we went trick or treating about 6:00. Then dropped the kids off at a halloween party, came home changed out of costume and my hubby and I went to the last quarter of our high school football game. They won!!!! It was the first game in the play - offs and they beat the team that was their only loss in the regular season!!! We are going tonight to the second play off game. We are sooooooo lucky they are home games. Sorry, I wouldn't go otherwise :0) Fair weather fan :)
The Monday after that dance (I must have over done it a bit :( ) I ended up in the hospital for nine hours for possible appendicitis!!! They even had me ride in the ambulance (no lights or sirens) to the bigger hospital where there would be a surgeon waiting for me! After further observation and a CT scan (I highly recommend you NOT have one of these - the stuff you drink is soooooooo NASTY and causes a colonoscopy clean out!!!!! YYYYEEEWWWWWWW!!!!!) Anyway, it wasn't appendicitis! YEAH! I have a 6mm KIDNEY STONE!!!!!!! OMG Well, I'm trying really hard to dissolve this thing with a very acidic diet and lots of coke a cola! They put me on prostrate meds, of all things, to hopefully help me pass it. However, they only give me a 30% chance of doing so :0( Then it will be an x-ray to see if it has moved then some type of removal:(
On to better things. These are the cows whom have enjoyed life next door all summer and I now believe they have become veal :0( I will miss them. It would be easier if we were to get some steak out of the deal.

This is a little hog nose snake we found in the garage. Very, very young. I would love to have one but they say they need to hibernate and you have to make sure of certain temperatures and what not.

These are cedar waxwing fledglings that blew out of a bush in our front yard. We put an upside down laundry basket over them to detour cats. They did make it! Flew away a few days later :0)
I have been doing some decent sewing. Christmas presents no less. Man, it's scary how fast that is coming up!!!! Good luck getting all that done. Keep on quilting. Off and running :0)

Halloween Stuff

Hello out there in blog land! I know, it's been a while :0( Again! Getting this guilty feeling reading others blogs and not participating :0) I have been doing some sewing and hope to post some pics of that next time. Anyway, I would have to say that Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. Christmas coming in second only because of the cold and snow. Tonight is my daughters Halloween dance and my hubby and I have been asked to chaperone :0) It should be fun! This is us dressed up two years ago for Halloween and we are wearing these same costumes tonight :0) My daughter is HUGE into Transformers and loves the character Prowl. We made the mask a couple of weeks ago and I thought that was the extent of her costume. WRONG!!!!! Here it is two hours before we have to leave and she is trying to do stuff for the arms and breast plate and probably tires too!!! grrrrrrrrrr.

We went for a pumpkin carving Demonstration by our local celebrity, Ed Moody. This is the pumpkin I did. You should check out his web site: pumpkined.com hopefully he still has it up and running. He is the most AWESOME carver you've probably ever seen :0)

One Month!!!!!

O.K. I just popped over to arletasmotleywool and noticed I haven't posted in over a month!!!! Yikes! Without a lot of detailand depressing yada yada, I have been very depressed but am doing and feeling a lot better :0) I was actually in my sewing room earlier and was SEWING!!!!!! YEAH!! This is a star I found On line and was working on for the back of a jacket I hope to finish sometime:)
My son is a weblo scout and we will be selling popcorn at our local super market tomorrow...Yipee???? Oh well, he likes it :)
Our 4-H quilt group is working on a donation quilt for the hospital auxiliary ball. It is falling leaves. We hope to maybe get borders on it next week and maybe I can post a pic.

Sand Hill Cranes

Here is a nice picture of some cranes that visited the pasture next to us a couple of days ago. They were quite interesting to watch too, as they would try to get to the grain in the barn and then the two young steers would chase them across the pasture. It was a fun game to watch. The young one sure had a work out :0)
I did not get to finish the quilting last night and it is a b-day present for tomorrow :0( Oh well, good thing it's a good friend as she will understand as she knows how I operate!!!!
Woke up this morning and went to download a pod-cast to my iTouch and remembered that I had an update to do on it. It would take a half hour to do so I set it up and went to work. Well long story short (because I'm completely exhausted!!!) It Crashed!!!!!!! And it took two HOURS of phone tech support to get it to restore!!!!! What a nightmare!!! Then, I'm still in my work cloths mind you, I still had to go to the grocery store. My eyes hurt and I'm burnt!!!! Ten dogs to groom today was just too much. My hopes for a better day tomorrow. Of and dragging myself to bed!!! LOL! Happy quilting!!!

Carpal Pond

Well, here it is. My Carpal Pond!!!! When I had my carpal tunnel syndrome surgery, I was soooooo bummed that I couldn't quilt :0( Well, when my friend picked me up to take me to my surgery, she showed me a paper pieced bumble bee that she had done. Then the light bulb then went off!!!! I bet after three days I could paper piece!!!! So I did! This is a pattern that I had been wanting to do for a long time. Can't wait to get it quilted and the eyes on those little guys!
We did meet tonight for our quilt group but is was too hot to quilt. so we just sat around and hen talked about our day. Probably won't quilt tonight.... oh wait, I do have something that has to be finished for Thursday. So I'll do that. Note to self... Tooth picks to hold eyelids open. LOL Off and running! Mom's Socks!!!

Yippee!!! After a year and a halfish, I finally finished my mom's knitted socks. They actually match too! Right down to the little red toe!!!! Couldn't have done them without the help from my friends. Thank you, Arleta for teaching me and helping with all the tinking :0) And Carrie helping with tinking, getting my toes to match and kitchener stitch.

Pot-holders

Well, imagine that! A post for two days in a row!! Rare for me, I'll say :0) Another shocker.... Said I was going to make pot-holders last night, and I DID!!!! Well they were all but quilted last night and I quilted them a little while ago :0) YIPEE! Another project down. Next up needs to be the Tee shirt quilt a lady commissioned me to do for her son out of her late husbands tee shirts. Hopefully we are going to the beach, so have a great day of quilting!!!!!

O.K. I should be tied and quartered. Rotten busy summer!!!! I live in a resort type town and my beach time comes in January :0( Anyway, sorry I haven't posted in soooooo long. Have been lurking here and there but either too tired or too pressed for time to comment. I posted awhile back about a block contest I entered and I actually won something!!!! There were about 135 blocks that were entered. They had to be an original design and 12 1/2 inches. Mine took second place!!!!!!! Missing first place by only two votes!!!!! The best part of winning second place was that the prize was a 17 inch rotating olfa rotary matt!!!!!! YIPEE!!!!!! First place was a two hundred dollar quilters basket. Well, like a lot of you, I'm sure, I probably already had over half the stuff in that basket anyway! Almost didn't make it in the contest though, due to my carpal tunnel surgery. That's an other post... yes, you can piece with only one hand :)
Off and running to my quilt room as I'm making a couple of pot-holders for the Cancer relay on the 10th :0) Have a great night everyone!!!!

Hmmmm, I guess one reason I don't post often is that I prefer to post with pictures. Well, it always seems like a fight. I can try to upload pics and it takes FOREVER to upload. Any tips on this would be great :0) Well, I'm sitting here recovering from carpal tunnel surgery on both of my hands a week apart. They did my right hand nine days ago and my left two days ago. It went really well and I'm doing great! Very little pain. Thought this would be a good time to get those pics from Paducah up. Well, my all time favorite quilt is New Dawn by Caryl Bryer Fallert and I was fortunate enough to meet her and get her autograph and picture with her in front of the quilt!!!!!! Which by the way is for sale for the low, low price of $34,000.00! Come on Mega Millions :0) LOL My friend Kathy (partner in crime, hehehehehe) Went with me to Paducah and she is pictured on the right. So that would make the person with the deer in the headlight look, me :( Of all the times to take a bad pic!!!!! Oh well, at least I have documentation of the event :0) Below is a picture of the New Dawn quilt. It may look familiar as a few years ago it was in a lot of the quilting magazines.

A little over a month ago, I went into the LQS to buy a flannel collection to start a quilt I have no business starting. (Sound familiar?) Anyway, I noticed that they were having a block contest. Three shops got together and decided on a fabric collection and picked a focus fabric that you had to use in your block. It had to finish 12 and 1/2 and be your own original design. For two dollars you receive a pack of tickets to vote for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at each shop. The three top prizes are a $200.00 quilter's basket for first, large olfa spin matt for second and a quilter's travel companion and a fat quarter bundle for third. Well, who would have known that I would have hand surgery the day after my surgical consult!!!!!! My center wasn't even completely needle turned! Well I had that night to finish my block :( So my idea of appliqued cherries and leaves went out the window. Crunch time!!!!! So here is my finished variation of my original idea. My biggest regret is that I had to fuse the leaves down:( Don't have thread to button hole around them either :0( Not to mention it was 1:00 A.M. !!!! So, they accepted it and it will be in the contest. I'm so glad as this hand surgery has me a little down and this will give me something to do. Get out of the house and Bop around some quilt shops!!! :0)

Back from Paducah

Well, we had a great time in Paducah. I had hand surgery Tuesday so can't type too much. We met Ricky Timms and he signed the picture of my traveling stars quilt. It aired on Monday. It was neat to see it hanging on the show! Anyway, also met and got an autograph from the best in show winner, Ted Storm. What a cool lady from the Netherlands. She quilted her quilt by hand and did fourteen stitches to the inch!!!!!! She's turning down the 20,000 prize money though so the quilt can be a handed down heirloom. It was designed from a bridle hanky that started in their family in 1829!!!!! Diane gaudinski was there and she won the Gammil prize and I met her and we chatted. She is very nice. She also signed my AQS book! Had to go by Bryer Patch studio and meet Caryl Bryer Fallert. She signed my AQS book and we had our picture taken with her by her New Dawn pheonix quilt!!!!! My favorite quilt ever!!!!!!!!! Soooooo Cooooool!!!!!!! She's a really nice lady too.

Paduka Bound!

My friend and I are going to Paduka!!! Yipee! I have relatives that live there and are letting us stay at their house. So in turn we made them a table runner. My friend Kathy did the applique and binding and I did the piecing and quilting.
The spring Fling for the school fund raiser is also this Sat. and I won't be here :0( This is the table runner I donated. Not quite a Championship Basketball quilt but hopefully it will raise some money for the cause :0)
Things have been crazy around here. I haven't even been able to lurk much. Hope all are well. Off and racing!

Oh Bummer!

Well, as Murphy's law has it, when things are just going along smoothly - watch out. Well, yesterday I did a load of wash just like every other day and boy did that machine start cussing and swearing at me!!!!! Call the repair man and he said it probably wasn't worth repairing and as i was talking to him the motor just died :0( Having the whole drum full of dirty soapy water with clothed in it :0( Bless my son as he wrung out and bagged all the cloths and double bless my friend Kathy as she told me to bring my two loads to her house and she would do it for me. Such an ANGEL!!!!!! I will be taking her quilt shop hopping and to lunch on Wednesday :0) That freed up my evening to buy a washer and low and behold by power of the internet and my trust phone, I now have a brand new Maytag washer and just did my first load and it sooooooooo ROCKS! It is bigger and a lot quieter too. I will sleep so much better tonight! Might go sew a little :) Off and running!

Great Aunt's Table Linen

I did also watch The Quilt Show and A & A had a guest on who looks for old linens and quilts them and adds overlays of doilies and they are just beautiful!!!! Thought I might try it sometime on my Great Aunts. It has some love stains but that lady says that it gives them character :0)

It's always so nice to get back home after a trip! Have plenty of time to get settled back in before quilt group tonight ( can't wait!). Had a great time spent WAY too much money ( kids cloths and shoes :0( no fabric. Did make a quick run into JoAnn's and grabbed some fusible and some thread for the christmas round robin I'm hand quilting. EFT 2010 ish! LOL! Kids just had to have some yarn for finger knitting. My son loves it! The weather was iffy but we are home safe and now I'm off to unpack. Off and running!

What's on my Bed????

Well. imagine that! Two posts for me in one day! So here is what is on my bed. Aquilt that I made for my Grandma who has since passed way. This is one of my first attempts at quilting and is probably more of a comforter as it is tied :0)
We don't have an actual quilt for our bed yet because I tend to give all my quilts away :0) However, I did a mystery with my quilt group that was designed by Iowa Star (?) Well the plan is to get this baby quilted on my little memory craft 4000 - see why it's not done, LOL - and get it on my bed :0) It is quite large. We have six foot ceilings and my husbands arm span is six feet and he couldn't open it all the way. Man I wish I had a long arm!
Still working on the runner! Off and running,

Auction Quilt and Place-matt

Well it's a snowy blowy day here! Wind just a whippin'! Had a great day yesterday, was kidnapped by my sewing studio and was able to start a thank you table runner a friend of mine and I are doing for some relatives of mine in Paduka, Kentucky. We are going to the show this year and they are going to let us stay with them. I;m so excited! I haven't been there in five years. We are planning on making quilted jackets to wear but we'll see, time wise :0) The hubby and kids took our four year old niece sledding, i didn't go because I had already ice skated earlier in the day and winter sports and i don't really get along. Nor do I get along with steep hills :0) I stayed home to get dinner ready and when the in-laws came to get the niece they ended up staying for dinner. O.K. I had made enough oven potatoes and my son wanted mac and cheese and I had six thin pork chops and seven people. No problem, until I opened the chops that had to be cooked in twelve minutes and they were BAD! The expiration date on it was for today! So I had to run to the store and replace them. Man, second time in six weeks In have had a meat issue with that store. The next grocery is seven miles one way! The manager was really nice about it. Replaced the chops with better thick chops for the same price and even said she'd come and ck them for me if she could leave work :0) Small towns ,eveyone knows everyone and she even goes to my church. Anyway, the chops were great and a good time had by all.
This is the auction wall hanging. It measures 33 inches by 38 inches. Thought I'd do a simple quilting pattern on it and I like how it made circles around the butterfly blocks and kind of a cathedral window design in the toad in the hole blocks.
Then this is the fist place-matt I have made for meals on wheels. The second one may not be heavily quilted or pieced. Again, it's that time issue ;0)
We may just stay tucked in here today where it's warm. Hope you get a lot of quilting done. I'm going to try before it's back off to work tomorrow:0)

Well, I don't know where to put my words down. Can't figure out bloglines so have to jump around in bookmarks looking for all you new posts :0) I like the way the other blog site had everyone current post right there to scroll through. That was much easier for me. I finished a place-mat for meals on wheels, have to have two done by March. Finished as auction quilt wall hanging yesterday for the silent auction today. Phew! That was close! I'll see how it goes and post some pics when I have more time. Calling for another snow storm Sat. night through Sunday. Looks like Jen over in Wisconsin is going to get it first though, since she is across the lake from me.

New and Old Hobbies

Howdy All,
Well, I have been quite busy in my sewing room trying to get done wit a three inch on line square swap and am almost done with that. Also will finish up five blocks for another online project today. It was fun doing them but it will be nice to be a little freed up to pursue yet another project :) Yippee! Here are a couple of pictures of the jewel box quilt I did for my daughter. It really was a fun project. I think the brightness of the colors helped with that.
Oh, and not that I have enough going on I have recently taken up violin lessons and I LOVE it! Some times 45 minutes go by just like that while I practice. It is really cool. So, you might have figured out that that is another reason I'm probably not blogging as much as I'd like, but I'm trying :0)

Last Day of Christmas Break

Well, tomorrow is back to school for the kids. Hmmmmm, on one hand I'm glad, it's easier to work when they are in school:0) Then again, we say good bye to another year. We did have a very productive day, none the less. My son had a friend stay the night last night, which seems to be a good thing as I get to have some uninterrupted sewing time. So I was able to get squares all cut and bagged to send for a block swap I'm in. YEAH!!! A little stress gone:0) Can't wait too see what I get back. How fun! They are really pretty sets of squares too! Before my son's friend left he sweet talked me into fixing his bunnies arm, patch his quilt his grandma made ten years ago and made him a pillow case. Also been working on a quilt on the design wall that I haven't touched in a long time. It will be nice to have that thing completely pieced. Well off to fix some dinner :0)

Hey everyone,
Hope you all are having a safe and wonderful New Years eve :0) I am spending it with my parents at their house. We have been shopping till we are dropping! Eating, eating and eating!!!!!!! OMG On wonder the first of the year is diet, diet, and diet!!!! Oh well, still having a great itme! However our plans have taken a turn, my da has come down with the 24 hour flu! Ohhhhhhhh, YUCK!!!!! Man, I hope we don't catch this or it's going to be a really rough 4 and 1/2 hour ride home on Wed.! Can't wait to get to finishing some of those U.F.O.s. I lkie Jen's idea of just seeing how much we can get behind us in Jan. I'm also fired up about starting some Christmas presents for next year. Was last year too but it didn't turn out like I pictured :) HMMMMMM! Wonder why? We are supposed to get some serious snow here too. Four to eight inches, which for this area is quite a bit. My brother drives a gas tanker and has to work eleven hours tonight, during the night and the storm, doging drunk!!!! Please keep him in your prayers :0) Thanks

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!! I sure did! I received four 45 minute violin lessons (Did I mention I have taken up the violin?) some quilting gift certificates, a beautiful necklace, a beautiful hand made dish cloth. a soap sock with wonderful smelling soap in it and an I Pod Touch! Who'd of thought!?!?!? WOW! Yeah, I REALLY like it !! Anyway, still have to get down to my parents for Christmas down there and celebrate New Years with them too, YEAH!!!! Now if the weather will hold :0) Here are some of the Christmas gifts that I did up. Pretty much quick and easy is the way to go for me.

My Traveling Stars quilt finally made it home yesterday! YIPEE!!!! Annie Smith put an additional label on it for me listing all the places ti has been. As far as states go... New York, New Jersey, Colorado, California, Texas and Michigan, of course! Can't wait to get it hung up! Actually curled up under it this morning and red some of my Quilter's Home before anyone else was up. Wouldn't want my family to catch me using it as a blanket!!!! They might try to do the same!!!

Marathons are Tiring :)

Well, where do I start? First off, we are all well and healthy. Amen! Work has been busy and school has been a complete nightmare. Constantly there fighting for one kid, then the other starts to have problems with his teacher! Just too much stress. So to cope I have been trying to sew. Need to post a pic of daughter's quilt - Still! Still need to make a pillow and finish a table runner. Haven't wrapped a thing yet either. Never have I been this procrastinating before Christmas. Think it's a depressed kinda thing. It to shall pass.
My Traveling Stars quilt that will be on the Quilt Show next year also went to Houston and to Bernina Headquarters. I bet it had a lot of fun :0) So, just because I had nothing else to do with ten bucks, I entered it on the AQS on line quilt show along with another quilt that I had made. All this started because a friend of mine made a really beautiful table center and she wanted to enter it. So we did. Another fire starter for this is the fact that she and I will be going to the Paduka AQS Show in the spring! Yipee!! I can't wait! Here are a couple of pictures of my kids dressed up for Halloween. We ended up making my son's because, even on line we couldn't find a Sir Aaron costume. It's a pokeman character.
I have been so busy that I haven't even been lurking. I will try to do better :0)

Round Robins

O.K. Here we go. I'm sure glad that I didn't post these on the other site before I realized that a lot of you switched to here. This is Lois' quilt. I did the last border which was a border of choice.
This is Emily's quilt and I did the paper pieced trees. It was to be a border or squares.
This is Minda's quilt and i did the applique border. She lives in the country and has chickens. So I tried to do her yard.
This is Kathy's quilt and I did the solid strip of fabric border.
This is Jan's quilt and I did the border of triangles. I made kimonos and cranes.
This is mine. I did the center and I get to keep and quilt this for my very own :0)
I've also been busy trying to finish up some ufos. Have a table topper done and almost my daughters jewel box lap throw bound. Went to finish a bargello flag that I started YEARS ago and found that there were actually three of them cut out!!! Oh my goodness! UFO pile just grew and mutated! So I'm going to go and try to work on them :0) Off and running :0)

Hello everyone,
Haven't been around here in a while as I started a new blog, myquiltblog.com/scissorhandscps and have been doing a lot of quilting. Still need to finish that second sock :0) I will have to get together with Arleta and Carrie and do some knitting:0) Below is a picture of a quilt that I made for a pattern designer as a test run and she asked me to send it to here to be photographed for her pattern book and she ended up being asked to do The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Timms! So my quilt will be on that show due to air next year between January and June! I'm so excited! Have also been finishing some UFOs. YEAH, two this week and working on a third! Hope everyone is crafting up a storm! Off and running - to my quilt studio! :0)

Not so much knitting

Well, since I have hardly been knitting due to soooooo much quilting! I of course still have my first pair of socks going, a dish cloth and two scarfs. I will put up pictures as I finish them but done hold your breath. I currently have FOUR quilting deadlines to met one by April 15ish, two by April 25 and one by May 1st. YIKES!!!!! However, alot of my friends will tell you, if I don't have myself stretched so tight, I'm not happy :)
Have started a new blog. It's a quilt blog and I will probably be posting there more often. I think. It's that time thing.

Started a Scarf

Well, I sure have been busy and I feel I have all of you to blame. This however, is a good thing. Reading your posts and all the ideas foe finishing ufos and a christmas pesent a month has had me in my sewing studio quite a bit:) Thank you, thank you, thank you. So in January I finished the thank you clef and note wall hanging for a computer friend, two pot holders (could be Christmas presents) and 12" block I'm donating for a breast cancer quilt. Haven't yet taken a picture on the note quilt but will post a pic when I do.
February I have finished a table center that I will exchange for someone elses in March. Also have been working on the round robins and have made the triangle border on it and will exchange it for another tomorrow. Just as soon as I put an applique ufo on the design wall, my DS comes in and starts going through my oriental fbric stash. Soooooooo, you guessed it, down came the applique quilt blocks and we started cutting up that oriental fabric. It currently lies on the floor ready to pin and the quilt patterns are ready to go. Little sweet heart thought it would be done this morning. Hardee Har HAR. I WISH I was that good.
Have also been listening to quilting podcast and have jioned a group over there and might have joined a block exchange group. CRAZY huh. That or REALLY, REALLY dumb. But hey, it really sounds like fun. Anyway, with all thios going on I don't know how often I will be posting as my knitting as REALLY dropped off, atleast until I found that basket of scarf yarn on sale. So I did start a scarf and have another one I want to start. Getting the shakes now. I really need to sit down and start a new ufo list but think sitting through three scary horror flicks would be more enjoyable. Saw Ghost Rider the other night and boy, was that a good flick. NOT kid material though. I think it would be way too scary.
Oh, by the way did you know I love dogs and chickens??? :0)

It's the Weekend - Yeah?????

Sat. morning, have to host the den meeting for son after dropping daughter off at friends. Then lunch quick and off for hair do (a most relaxing time). Then home to get daughter so her other friend can come over for a Heeley's sleep over. Oh yeah, somewhere in there son will have a friend over but I'll be gone and husband will be on duty. I think when we reach the point of the Heeley party I will retire to my sewing studio to machine quilt. (I'd lock myself in but one of the corners we cut for cash purposes was no door on that room) Bad idea, as after the kids had friends over I found my rotary cutter rather close to my machine and a bunch of cut up paper. They didit right on my sewing table top not on the rotary cutting board. Miraculously it is fine but the blde is much duller:( I hide that stuff now. I WANT A LOCKABLE DOOR:)
By the way I switched to the new blogger just before this post. I figured that being so new if I lost everything it would be no big deal. It was very quick, easy and painless. All my stuff followed me and my template stayed the same. So I wouldn't be so nervous it went very well.

Five things people don't know about me. Hummmmmm, that's not easy because I have a mouth that should have a muzzel on it half the time because sometimes it has a mind of i'ts own :)

1. My Paternal Grandma taught me to embroider.

2. My Maternal Grandma taught me to crochet.

3. My MIL gave me my first knitting lesson. I made one slipper that was WAY too small. She also started me on quilting.

4. I have found actual arrowheads in a tobacco field in Tennessee.

5. I have learned to NEVER EVER mess with a ouiji board.

Sometimes it is just easier to read blogs then to post one. Not much nw scince yesterday. Worked on the wall hanging some, only three more borders to go before I can start quilting it. Reluctant to pick up the sock because the heal flap on the second sock is knit tighter than the other one. I know, I'll get past it sooner or later.
Work was wicked today. Good money but it REALLY cuts into the craft time. Eight dogs today and didn't get done until 5:45. Didn't even get lunch, but it's my own fault since I'm also the scheduler. I just feel so sorry for those poor animals that are in need and very uncomfortable. Of course the extra one I took today was seriously GROSS!!!!! Can't tell detail. just really gross! I felt so good when that poor dog was all CLEAN and brushed out, she was beautiful and you could tell how much better she felt. So happy too. If hadn't taken her in I could have been done at 3:30 and been able to craft until I had to pick up the kids:) Glad I took her in :0)
Made the mistake of downloading the movie Cars on to my laptop and now I'm being begged to watch the movie by my DS. So I'm racing off to Radiator Springs.

Back to the Grind

Well, it's over for another year. Kids are in school again and I'm back to work. Five dogs today. Had a little yorkie that everybody was making over, he is a really cute dog. A bichon, a sheltie, a cairn terrier and a portugese water dog (Oscar, he was my favorite today). Nice light day for jumping back in.
Have been working on my sock. G-girl gave me advice that it is just a sock. Sooooo, I will finish it with the mistake in it and chalk it up to my fisrt pair. There will be others, right??? My feet won't care and I will still love them. But advice to other first time sock knitters. If a non matching pair of socks will bother you, don't start out with self stripping yarn:)
Have been doing quite a bit of quilting lately. That's where the UFO thing would come in handy for me. Almost have a crib sized wall hanging done that I started about three days ago. It is to be a thank you. A little incentive to get er done quick.

Wow, looking back I see that I haven't posted for quite sometime. OPPS! Well, all is well and Christmas was wonderful. Still trying to get my first pair of socks done. At my pace, maybe that should be my New Years Resolution. Did finish my quilt block for my round robin I will be starting January ninth. It will be fun. It will also be a push for me as I will only have a month to work on a border on someone elses block. I won't even see my block for seven months! Then they will all be done and everyone will get their own block back with all the borders on it. Pretty exciting! Can't wait:)
Have a birthday dinner for the MIL tonight to attend at Red Lobster. YUM! May try to knit on my sock on the way there. Have already tinked back about for rows once on the heel flap, what's one more time, if need be right??? A friend commented that I need to let go of my perfectionism. If that's true, then why is her stuff so much better then mine??:)
I have also had a serious itch to finnish alot of my quilting projects. Only have about 20 or so.

WHAT A WEEK!!!

OH MY GOSH. I left that post last Saturday and during dinner one of my bestest friends of six years,up and died :( My computer!!!!! What a complete bummer to go at this tme of year when money is , you know, soooooo abundant - NOT! Well, the pain is not so bad now as I sit here and post on m new laptop. It is REALLY COOL. Highly recommend it if your in the market for a puter. As for my old friend. The hard drive is o.k. and will be installed into this one soon. The computer it's self may be fixable for a small amount and then the kids can play on that one. They make me nervous when they use this one.
My poor sock. It has been getting like NO attention. With all the doggies that need beautifying this week I don't see much knitting time in my future.
Christmas stuff almost done except for those few annoying little extras to get to. The the company will arrive friday. It will be a most wonderful Christmas too, as this will be our first one in our new house. My eight year old DS is soooooo excited and is the best decorator, he has earned the nickname, "Mister Christmas".
Don't know how much posting I will get done this wild week. But it sure is good to get back. Alot of my favorite blogs to catch up on. So if I don't make it back before the holidays settle down I hope you all have a most enjoyable time. I will be racing through the holidays as usual :)

Week in Review

Wow, it's been a busy week. I find this always seem to happen in December. Let's start with last Saturday. I was scheduled for a hair apt. and my daughter said she wanted a haircut. So I called and they said they could fit her in while they do my hair.This is her before she went pictured here with her brother visiting with Santa.

Now this is after the long awaited haircut.

You really have to give her credit as she donated about eleven inches of her hair to Locks for Love. This is the second time she has done this in her ten years of life. She has such a big HEART:) (purple puddles) Makes me soooo proud.
Had I mentiond that my camera was on the fritz? Well it would open but not shut until the battery died. So taking pictures was not very fun unless it was an emergency. So a new camera is out of the question until after Christmas because the credit card is still melted and warpped for the last shopping adventure. So I was examining it and decided it can't get too much worse so I figured out I could shut it if I stuck the toothpick in there and poked around a bit. The camrea didn't seem real fond of this idea but it subcummed and we took some pictures. So this morning I decided to take some more pictures and upon opening it, it decided to puke up a little piece of plastic. Something that resembled a piece of a gear. Probably goes with the other half that it puked up over Thanksgiving. Anyway, it is working fine now. Have to love that higher power. We will have Christmas pictures after all :)
So I did finish that Halloween wall hanging. Here's a picture.

Also, I was to host our little quilt group here last Tuesday and one of the ladies mentioned doing a sunflower quilt. Well I have a pattern I have been wanting to due, atleast one block of it. So needless to say it lit a fire under me and most of last weekend I jammed on it and actually made two :)

Now the problem of which border to choose, how to quilt it, get a rod pocket on it, get it bound and wrapped for my other quilt group that is having it's Christmas party Monday night!!!!!! Also ended up getting some doughnut holes, cider, setting up and getting ready and thank you northern michigan for SNOWING!!!!! :( Then only one lady showed. We had a nice chat and discussed quilting patterns for a quilt she's on a deadline with. All in all it was fun. Hmmmmmm, and here I sit.
Well, if you've been keeping up, you know that's not enough for a marathon. So I also said I would help with coffee fellowship tomorrow at church. Still have to get fruit and dip. The kids and I decided to bake cookies the last two nights. We made homemade chocolate chip cookies, chrismas cookies (some still need frosting)- and yes there are two pumpkin cookies and one Jack Skelington cookie as he is my daughter's favorite hero right now, spumoni cookies and church windows.

The only little problem I had was in turning off my double oven. Forgot to take the chocolate chip cookies out of the bottom oven. OOPS. They're still edible but very crunchy. My husband calls them dunkers for his milk. He's so wonderful.
Well a little blurb about my job during the holiday season. Scince I only see my clients about every six weeks the
Christmas gifts have been starting to come in. Yesterday was a little unusual, but I happen to like that. Started out with extra cash - it's the best, then some sinfully delicious chocolate truffled from Seattle WA. OH, SO YUMMY. Toffe, blackberry, expresso, and mint. Also a set of Sebastian Professional Laminates Dazzling Shine shampoo and cream rinse. (for me, not the dogs:) Then, if you can believe it, a whole spiral sliced HONEY HAM!!!!!!! Wow, is our family going to LOVE that!!!! I love my job. Have to jump out of my P.J.'s now and begin the race. Want to make walnut and or pecan balls today and maybe wreaths too. I sooo put too much on myself sometimes but it keeps life interesting. Have a great weekend. Off and racing:)

Thanks for the comments about snoopy. We're starting to get back to an even keel. Time seems to heal even the worst of things. Having a wonderful family and two healthy chillins helps:)
Haven't been knitting lately due to a little error that needs to see the Sock Doc, hopefully tomorrow.
Have been quilting in the studio quite a bit though. LD asked to quilt this weekend so I set her up next to my machine and she made a nine patch scrappy table center piece. Maybe one more border to sew on and then she can get her feet wet machine quilting:) Ohhhhh how exciting!!! I will be starting a round robin project in January with a small group of friends. The idea is that you make a center block and then each of the other people will put a different border on it. If there are six people your quilt will have five borders on your center and you get to keep and quilt it. A few years back I was lucky enough to do three round robins with our local quilt shop. Two of them were with Norway and one with Switzerland. Very cool to experiance quilting from over seas. We also sent journals and they wrote in ours and us in their's. The best part was that the shop had a book pulished called Friendships in Bloom and I'm in it with three borders that I did. VERY COOL! That brings me to what I was going to say in the first place. I have been working on a mariner's compass block that I tought I would use for my center and whoops, it is 14 inches instead of 12. BUMMER. Now I either have to make another one or change to a differnet block. I have started two sunflower blocks, may use one of those.
I will have to post some pics soon if the camera will decide to work. It's partially broke and now seems to have a mind of it's own:( Need a new one anyway but just can't afford it with the down hill slide to Christmas bearing down. This is a pic of a house block I worked on for a quilt that our quilt group did for our church bazaar. It was a fun block to do.

Sad Day

Don't read this if you don't want to be brought down. I wasn't going to post today because it's been a very sad one. My work day was to start with two dogs coming at 8:30. The new client shows up with only one dog saying that the 15 year old dog isn't doing well. OOOOO.K. Just so happens that our family has decided to put our 15 year old beagle down today because he's not doing so god either. Everyone said good bye to him this morning before school and I was left to do the dirty deed following my work day. Well, my seven dogs are now down to six due to the no show and then the phone rings. It is the man that has the little poodle/shih-tzu that I have been grooming since it was a puppy about 15 years ago. (What is it with 15 today?????) He says he can't make his 9:00 apt. because he has been up with his "puppy" all night. She hasn't eaten in two days and has been throwing up all night. All choked up by this I time, I told him not to worry abot it. He said he'd call me later and let me know what the vet said. Well he called all right, just as I was walking out the door to take care of our crippled up old dog and that was all I could take. Bawled like a baby for the next 45 minutes. When it rains it pours. And why is it that doing something so nice for the dog has to feel so HORRIBLE for me??
Thanks for listening, I feel a little better. On an up note. I went to my quilt meeting and finished a halloween wall hanging. Finishing is good. Will try to get a picture on soon. Don't feel much like racing tonight.

Not that I really ever left, have just been soooo busy with the holiday. The company has left, the turkey is soup, kids are in school and I'm back to work. Things are almost back to normal. Now let the Christmas prep begin.
Thanks for all the comments on my finnished sock. I really am proud of it. I was able to knit on it a little over the weekend but ended up tinking more than knitting and messed it up and had to wait for The Sock Doc Arleta to fix it. She left a little bit ago and my sock is all better again:0) Now I'm happy because I can knit again. Let's hope I make no more mistakes.

P.S. This is a scarf that I'm trying to knit when the sock is in down time. It's going very slow but it will match a headband that Arleta made for me. Now if I get it done before winter I'll be all set.

Hope everyone is ready for the big day. I'm trying to get to that point. After I groom nine dogs tomorrow I will have half the battle beat. The pies should be done in a couple of minutes and I will make homemade cinnamon applesauce tomorrow. Have to wait for the kids, they like to use the apple corer peeler slicer from Pampered Chef. It is soooo awesome. Company coming tomorrow, so probably won't post much this long weeknd. Hope to get in some knitting though. May everyone have a safe and most enjoyable Thanksgiving weekend. Oh that's the timer!!! Gotta race - Good Night :)

First Sock!!!!:)

OH. MY. GOSH! YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finished my first SOCK!!!! I'm sooooooooo HAPPY!!!! It fits! It's great and I love everything about it!!!!! Have already made it through half of the ribbing of the second one! I want it done as I sit here with one hand knit sock on and the other kind of sock on. Too bad my knitting will be minimal as heavy work load and Thanksgiving dinner approach. At least it's stared. The challenge will be to get them to match, as the first sock's last row turned out to be red. What are the odds??? I think it will be close. Racing off to dinner now. Keep on knitting.

P.S. Finally changed my profile picture. Guess I have finally excepted the fact that halloween is over:( One of my top favorite holidays, if you hadn't guessed. Anyway, yes that is me. I'm modeling my very first knitting project. A scarf and yes it is made out of Red Heart yarn from a hundred million years ago. But I was pretty certain that I would hate knitting and it would end up in a box somewhere. I wonder what happened? Knitting Rocks! LD took the picture, and either I'm slouching or the room is crooked--Hmmmmmm.

Tuesday! Day off! Yeah!

You have to love day's off. Especially after yesterday, eight dogs left all clean and beautiful. Alot of hard work but it pays off when the client picks up the dog and is soooo happy. Picture came out a little blurry, but this is some of what I do.

So today I worked my son's class at school for about 45 min. to help out the teacher. Second grade, those kids are so fun:) Now I'm home again and my mission is to get my halloween stuff put away. Yes, I know how bad that sounds because my little 2 year old niece came over the other day and told her mom that she had to tell Aunt Cindy that halloween is over. So that's my goal to finish that before noon. I will treat my self to 15 minute breaks to fit in some knitting, as I did to rows before going to the school this morning. After school we're having the cub scout den meeting, which I will also be cooking dinner for because it will be from 5:15 to 6:30 and then I'm off to a quilt meeting at 7:00.
Here's a picture of my dishcloths that I have made. They are so fast and fun. Have about four more skiens of yarn to make more but I am addicted to my sock right now:)

Just wanted to say thanks for the comments and that I am having fun hearing from people from all over the place. Had a request to see my sock. So even though it's not done, I took a picture of it. Maybe this will give me a little more insentive on getting it done Wasn't able to knit much on it today. Day off??? What day off??? Did knit a row before my shower and a row at the jewlery party I attended after church. Took it to the cub scout pack meeting but the fire dept. visited, which was interesting and most of all my son earned his bobcat patch:0) I am soooooooo proud of him- purple puddles. Wrapping up dinner now and hope to get in some knitting time before the sandman gets here. Have a good night.

Such a nice day - Saturday. No dogs to groom. Could almost sleep in too, if the kids didn't wake up earlier on the weekend then they do for school:)
We had a lot of snow fall here last night, O.K., only a couple of inches, but any more than flurries is too much for me:)
Had a really nice time knitting last night on my sock. It is really looking nice. As a newbie, I'm still really impressed with stripping yarn. Hope the second one will sort of match.
Kids had two birthday parties today and then friends over too. I tell you, you better stick a fork in me I'm just about done.
Have been looking at old pics on the puter and thought I'd share a couple of quilt pics.

Well, every time I try to post, blogger shuts down:( Hey, we might be on to something here it's letting me type!!!!! It has been horrible not to be able to post.
Finally was able to upload a picture, don't know what happened to the comment part. Anyway, that is a group effort qilt that some friends of mine worked on together at our weekly quilt meeting. Was very cool, kind of like an old time quilting bee. This is a charity quilt for breast cancer, if you hadn't guessed and will be auctioned off in 2007 on Ebay for the Susan B. Kohlman foundation. I will post a more accurate date as I am informed.
Have been working on my first sock, that I am very proud of by the way (mistakes and all). Am turning the heel and made a mistake and was stuck. I REALLY hate when that happens. I feel so helpless. So last night instead of waiting for my teacher, Arleta, I sat down and tinked it myself. Of course I was in fear of dropping a whole lot of stitches and making a worse mess but I carried on and found where I had picked up an extra stitch at the back of the heel. I fixed it!!!:) Have kintted two more rows and it looks good. Would like to knit now but just finished seven dogs and have to get the kids. Start my Mommy job now:)

Well, tried to post yesterday twice but blogger wouldn't let me. Shut down twice half way through my typing. Anyway didn't have any me time for crafting the other night because a trip down state came up so I was cram packing.
Did want to post that yesterday morning just before we had to leave for school, my husband spotted a ten point buck standing just beyond the orchard behind our house. What a rack:) Of course he had to try to get pics but couldnn't get close enough. He did say that when he did get near enough to see him he also saw he was with a doe, they were bedding down at the back property line. The doe spooked and ran through the bobbed wire fence (twang) then the buck followed. On the other side of the fence they settled for a bit before the buck spooked. What and awesome site. He reared up turned in the air and started bounding away with the doe following. Very cool to see that out our kitchen window let me tell you. Needless to say the kids were a little late for school. OOPS:( Oh well, sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy God's creations. We don't hunt at all, but we do have a lick stone in the orchard just so we can watch them. The kids think it is to cool.

Well back again, just a quick note about a typical day down state.
Sewing store to drop off machine for cleaning, then Sam's for eye exam and stuff, then Optimeyes for glasses (BUMMER)-but it is nice to see. Back to Mom's and grabbed kids and took them to Chuckie Cheese's for lunch, took son to get hair cut and dropped them off at brothers, then picked up sewing machine, back to pick up glasses, then to Walmart to clothes shop, then home again to get family to go to dinner, then FINALLY back home to mom's to rest. Lasted maybe 15 minutes or so and decided to groom their dog. Is there any reason I should not be having this glass of wine??? Have a goodnight, I will and I will try hard not to race until morning:)

Here I am again. Almost same time and definately the same place. ( wish this had spell check) Six more cute doggies walked proudly fresh and clean out into the day and my shop is even swept already:) Kids are doing homework, dinner is almost done, no where to be tonight. Hummmmm, Knit? Quilt?? Knit?? Quilt?? Probably quilt, as my first sock I have ever tried to knit is at turn the heel and my teacher from Arleta's Motley Wool has to help me with it. Oh yeah, there is that dish cloth and the scarf and the...... Yes, I am one whom likes to start and start and start. So when I learn how to put pics on here it will usually be something and a cause for celebration when I acually do finish something.
Did try to give blood today. It's been almost eight years since I've been. Boy, kids keep ya busy:) Anyways they turned me down:( Due to a head cold. They said to come back next month. And I will.
Off to slop the kids, tame the laundry and then maybe some time for me:) Gotta race.

I can't believe I am starting a blog as it seems like most of the time I hardly have time to breath, but a friend of mine posts on her blog and when I do get a minute I do like to read it and a few others as well, so here I am. I can't promise how often I will post for as I sit here I still have a bunch of dog hair to sweep up in my grooming salon. Six dogs and what a mess!!! Kids are doing homework and need showers, laundry to be folded etc. etc. etc. Gotta race:)
